We had an incredibly productive third training session on April 25, 2026. It is inspiring to see the 2026 team’s hard work and dedication as we get closer to our departure.

1. Teaching Plan Presentations

Each group presented their teaching plans, demonstrating impressive creativity and leadership. The students are well on their way to being fully prepared for the classrooms in China. But some groups still have significant work ahead to finalize their lessons. We will continue to support these groups to ensure them meet our readiness standards.

2. Special Guests from City/Town Council

We were honored to be joined by two Councilwomen who spoke to the team about the importance of their role as student ambassadors. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for their presence. Their encouraging remarks underscored the local government’s support for our mission and provided invaluable inspiration to the young leaders as they prepare to represent our community abroad.

As a member of the Durham City Council, Ms. Shanetta Burris has been a strong advocate for economic development, housing, and equitable growth, working to ensure that Durham continues to thrive for all of its residents. With a background in leadership and public engagement, she brings both experience and passion to her role.

Ms. Sue Mu, has been making history as the first Asian American elected to the Apex Town Council. A small business owner and advocate, she champions smart growth and ensures every resident feels they belong. She is also representing MOVE Foundation in donating $500 to our program. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to MOVE Foundation for their generous support.

3. Important May Dates

• TMI Community Fundraiser: May 16, Saturday 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Durham Central Park. Please help support our 2026 team.
• Final Meeting: May 17, Sunday 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm, same place. This will be our last mandatory gathering with mysterious guests.
